September 2020 marked our 30th anniversary! We thank everyone who has been with us along the way - residents, their families and our staff - both past and present! We consider you all part of The Berkeley family and we look forward to all those who will become part of the family in the future!

We are a family-owned retirement living business with roots in this community as far back as five generations. We believe in supporting local businesses and charities, forming partnerships within and giving back to our community while also ensuring that our residents enjoy their lifestyle and love their stage of life!

The first of our retirement residences, The Berkeley Halifax, opened its doors on Green Street in September 1990. Since then, the business has grown to include a total of four new buildings in HRM - The Berkeley Dartmouth, The Berkeley Bedford, The Berkeley Gladstone and The Berkeley on Pepperell. On April 20, 2021, we said goodbye to our building on Green Street and moved into our new building on Pepperell Street in the Quinpool District of Halifax.

The Berkeley prides itself on being an intimate, welcoming community for seniors with many included benefits. We deliver extraordinary, personalized customer service to our residents in a positive, caring environment where our employees feel empowered and connected to our residents.

Each of our buildings boasts the character of its community, and the social calendar reflects the interests of its residents. Though each building is unique, they are all within walking distance of important amenities such as grocery stores, pharmacies and doctors’ offices.
